Thorn sat to the right of her father on a smaller rock chair that had elborate designs. She was listening to the music filling the hall, people chatting and eating in their dress clothes. Personally she'd rather be out in the forest or on the dock watching the moon float across the sky. Or sleeping. A soft sigh escaped her lips. The worst part of the evening was that she wasn't allowed to go and talk to anyone. Only sit there and stare blankly at the crowds
Though she couldn't really complain, today was a day to look like a girl and not a rough tough viking. She was wearing a light pink dress that had a black peice of leather across the stomach. Her hair was let out of their usual braids and was soft and wavy down her shoulders. Pink flowers were tucked so they pulled her left bangs away from her face and kept them behind her ear. It was the most feminie peice of clothing she had. Along with a black dress she used for funerals.
Her fingers drummed lightly against the arm rest of her chair and looked around the room. Her father was sitting beside her in the center chair, from her position she couldn't tell if Rose was sitting on the otherside of her father or not. She may have been allowed to go off and talk to people...or kill them. Thorn shoook her head. Still not ready to believe that her sister would do something like that.
Thorn looked over when the music stopped and the crowd hushed, her father stood up and walked up a bit to get closer to the others. She placed her hands on her lap and uncrossed her legs. Watching her father with interset. He had to have SOME reason why he would call the village to the mess hall for a celebration. Thorn zoned out when he started talking to the villagers about their successes, but then he said smiled. A first smile in a while, then turned and beckoned Thorn over.
She immeditatly stood up, smoothing her dress out before walking up to her father and smiling softly. "As most of you well know, my first daughter Thorn is turning eighteen in a couple of days. That is why I've called you all here, today is the day that my daughter will pick her husband." He said firmly, looking down at her. Thorn's mouth opened a bit, before a false smile streched into place. He nodded before turning back to the villagers and then signalled for the musicians to start playing again.
Thorn was led back to her seat, where her father was bombarding her with questions. Such as who she was going to pick, and also suggesting men to her. Looking around she chewed lightly on her lip. It felt wrong to randomly pick a man that she'd have to have childern with and control the village with when her father passes on. No matter how much her father wanted her to be wed before her nineteenth birthday, she wanted to meet the right man that she knew wouldn't cast her aside once her father passed on.
"What about Jon Gærning? He's a fine viking, strong and very brave." He suggested, glancing over at Thorn to see her reaction. Though she was looking for someone else.
"Yes father...he is a fine viking." She said before turning slightly to look at her father. "May I go and speak to a few of the avalible men?" She questioned sweetly, giving her father a 'puppy-dog' face, he reluctantly agreed. Immeditatly she stood up, smiled at her father before walking through a small crowd of vikings and dissappeared to the front of the room.

Rose had been, well, dragged to the mess hall by her father today, to say the least. It was for Thorn, the meeting, but she didn't want to just sit there and conversing with those that approached her, but even then it could be a pain at times. Hiding her real personality, making stutters and blushes, was exagusting. Fortunatly, most of the people in Månen were, not stupid, but not very smart either.
She had slipped out of her fathers grasp a few times that day, but still he brought her and sat her down in the chair next to his. Thorn was probably on the other side, but her father's largness made it that she couldn't even see her oldersister. Rose stared out into the controlled chaos infront of her, people socializing and having fun all while she's captive by her father. Sometimes she could wish him dead. Besides the nessisities, he wasn't much of a father. Just a man with plans.
She sighed and leaned back in her chair, waiting for something to happen when something did. Her father stood up, and also Thorn but Rose remained seated. It wasn't really about her, so there was no reason to stand. And if there was, she doubt she would have.
Then everything went back to normal, and her father began to ask Thorn many questions. Rose sat there, ears perked, wanting to listen in. A bunch was just babble about Thorn finding a husband. Irritated, she sighed, resting her head on her hand. It was seriously borning to listen to her father and Thorn talk, but she could feel their conversation was closing. Thorn was using that voice again.
Jon Gænring.
Those works sparked in her head and she blushed, a real one this time. Jon. She had a crush on him ever since last year. Rose had no idea why she even liked him. Strong, yes, smart, possibly, honest, not very likely. He was known as a flirt among the girl. But she wasn't turned on by flirting or looks, just battle and Jon was known to be strong.
She sighed once more that evening, watching her sister dissapper into the crowd. Rose attempted to follow, but her father grabbed the back of herBerk collar and sat her down on the chair. She scowled and looked out into the crowd, hoping someone would come to her rescue and just talk to her.

Jon didn't want to be here, he had thousands of other things he could be doing. He didn't count this as something that counted as one of those things. Though, for the sake of something slightly interseting, he came with his parents to the party. Who had been hinting that they wanted him to come for a week, and who can say no to their parents?
He leaned over his foul tasting beer and listened to the obnoxious music and chatter fill the air. The smell was worse, the only nice smell was when the door opened and a flood of air flew in. He chugged the last of his beer when the room fell silent, indicating that something was about to happen. Turning in his chair, he noticed a very beautiful girl up on stage.
No. Not the one standing up, well...he thought she was beautiful too. Though more in a strength and status way. The girl sitting beside Eirik was the one he was staring at with his mouth opened a little. His years of training made his facial features return to neutrel. Jon let his eyes wander back towards the main focus of the silence. Hearing it breifly and understanding that Thorn, the cheifs daughter, was turning eighteen soon and was going to be married before her nineteenth.
The celebration was back, though the avalible men around him started talking about how they were going to marry Thorn. Though the tone of their voices made it sound like they were just after the power and role of strongest bravest viking. Jon pushed his beer a bit away from him, then looked up and started walking towards the front. When he got to the edge he listened closely when he heard his name being spoken by the cheif.
Though he was slightly happy that she thought he was a strong and brave viking. He waited until Thorn got up and dissappeared into the crowd before stepping towards the thrones. "Excuse me, Cheif," he said bowing his head in respect, "may I borrow Rose for a few moments?" Jon asked hopefully.

Rose looked at the crowd with watchful eyes, her entire look the same as it had been for years, that shy look. But seeing as this was ameeting in honnor of Thorn, Rose held her head higher today than she did at other times, though she still tried to look frail, as most imagined her to be. But as she stared at the crowd, looking for her sister out of everyone else.
Suddenly, she heard a voice next -or near- her father. She looked up to see...Jon?! She felt a blush crawl up on her cheeks and she turned her head away, embaressed. The blush even deepened when he asked if he could borrow her. Wow, she didn't actually have to spend the night up on the throne. She couldn't believe this was happening. With real hope in her eyes -the first time in forever- she waited for her father to give an anwser.
She watched him, studying his movements and expressions. He looked suprised, maybe even shocked. Maybe he was confused why Jon didn't want to "borrow" Thorn, but Rose instead, as if his plans had failed. The thought of it made her giggle silently. She casted her green eyes his way, narrowed. But quickly she realized that wasn't "her" and changed her look back to innocent, hoping no one noticed.
"Of course," he said, but in a way that made him sound unsure and that he also wanted to add 'Dont hurt her', or something the controlling -or protective, he lived to say- father would have said. Rose stood up immediatly, egar to leave the throne area. She looked at Jon and gave him a shy smile, only partly faked this time. Hm, he looked even cuter up close. Oh wow, that sounded stalker-like, but was that what a crush was like? Hm, she's never really had one before.
She looked down at her feet then up at him timidly, the look in her eyes asking "What now?" for she was just glad that he saved her from a night of boredom.

Jon smiled and bowed his head in respect when Eirik agreed to letting him borrow Rose. He waited until she was standing near him to step to the side to let her led him where she wanted. He was a gentleman first and a viking second. Of course, that didn't mean he wanted to stay and talk to Rose in front of her father, that would be awkward for him. Giving a final polite glance at Eirik he followed Rose. Waiting until they were far enough before looking down at Rose.
"May I ask why your father looked so dissapointed that I was asking if I could talk to you?" he questioned her, his eye brow raised slightly to show that he was actually interseted in her answer. The only reason was that Eirik did not approve of Jon, which made Jon feel uneasy. If he wasn't approved of by Eirik then that would mean his parents would kick him out. Knowing that his parents wanted a viking, not a disgrace.
He wondered where Thorn had dissappeared to. If this was her 'party' then wouldn't that mean that Eirik would've made her sit and watch everyone have fun. That was a party around here anyways. The guest of honor would watch everyone have fun doing something in their name, which was great to do. Though incredibly boring, he knew this from when he became a viking.

"O-oh," Rose replied, her mind blank at that one moment. Why had her father looked dissapointed? That was simple, really and she was a tad confused why he didn't already know this. Maybe he hadn't been paying much when he came to rescue her. Hm, should she tell him? Well, if she wouldn't, someone else would sooner or later so she decided she might as well.
"M-my father want y-you to marry T-thorn," she said and if you took out thhe faked stutters, it was pretty blunt. She watched him for a reaction. Pride, worry and resentment were a few of the things she were looking for. Even for the (mostly) emotionless posture and stance he took, Rose could figure out any emotion people felt. You could say it...helped her with what she loved.
She continued to talk without regersiting if he had said or done anything. "I-I mean...he wants the best for Thorn and I but he can be a b-bit too controlling about some things," she said with a sigh. It wasn't easy being the offspring of the cheif. Espially since he was the cheif.
She fingered down to the rim of her dress, holding on to the fabric tightly. Winter was here so she had a pair of warm, though thin, pants underneath. However, with this many people in the mess hall made everything uncomfortably warm, making her wish she had left the warm pants at home and just beared the cold on the way down, seeing as it wasn't that far away at all.
She looked back at Jon with shy eyes. "Y-you don't seem to be liking it very much here. W-would you like t-to move to some place else?"

Thorn glanced around the crowd of people. Looking for the one person that could take away her worries of the night. Someone she relyed on the second most. Her eyes scanned the crowd once more before giving up and sitting down at a table and grabbing a beer as the beer lady walked by. She sipped at the bitter drink before sighing and glancing around. Hoping for any sign of him. Guess he isn't into this sort of thing... she thought sadly before chugging the rest of the beer, spitting some back out as the dirty taste of the rim filled her mouth.
Standing up she walked back towards the thrones, but caught Rose talking to Jon. Creeping over she heard Rose mention to Jon that they could go someplace else. Her sense went on high alert and slipped easily up beside her sister. "Rose. I've been looking every where for you!" she said giving her sister a quick look. "This 'party' is so boring, what are you two doing?" she questioned, trying to get Jon distracted so he didn't take the offer from rose. Since if he did then Thorn imagined that Rose may end up doing something that she couldn't end up covering.
"Has anyone seen..." she paused, wondering if she should ask. Not wanting to hint to anyone who she liked, instead she sighed, "Rolf? I wanted to ask his oppinion on who I should marry. I mean, he's the second person I would rely on. You, Rose, being the first," she said babbling on before putting her hand to mouth and apologizing.

Rolf stood picking at the white shirt Elrunguard had forced him into, glaring at said blacksmith who'd raised him since he was young. Any other day he grabbed at chances to see Thorn, but today was a village meeting, something he always made a point of avoiding. Not that day. Elunguard practically threw him out of the smithy, telling him to bathe and put on the clothes he'd laid out as it was time to start making a name for himself. Rolf didn't see the point. His parents had him young and died only a few years later, leaving no possessions or a strong family name for their son. So now he had no social standing, an orphan looked down upon, and no amount of dressing up was going to change that.
But despite how cold he was, he couldn't say no to the blacksmith. And so he found himself in a white shirt, soft boots and new leather trousers that clung to his slightly damp skin. "Very nice, and the girls think so too!" Elunguard said, chuckling and looking behind him. Rolf frowned and looked behind him, his expression turning into a glare at the slightly predatory looks a group of girls gave him before ducking into the mess hall. Turning the glare on a still chuckling blacksmith, Rolf turn and stalked into the Mess Hall, instantly wishing he hadn't.
It was at this moment that Rolf hear Erik announce that Thorn was to be married. His heart turned to ice, his insides feeling as if they were being squeezed. 'Married?' He thought to himself, eyes staring ahead, only focusing when the Vikings in front of him moved, leaving a shiny shield showing off his reflection. Dark eyes roamed over the reflection that they were presented with. 'Why would she pick you?' He asked himself. Sure, he was tall and muscular, but he lacked the broadness that most Vikings prided themselves on. He had no social standing, no land or even possessions. He had barely even proven himself in battle.
It was at this realisation that he would have to let her go... And there was that sharp pain above his heart again. Wide eyes gazed back at themselves through damp hair, denial ringing clear. Did he love Thorn? It couldn't be possible. Sure he cared about her, but love? It only took him a moment to realise that he did, in fact, love her. Two seconds after he admitted it to himself his feet started moving, his gaze falling on Erik and determination colouring his steps and posture.
He would ask Erik for her hand in marriage.
Rolf's steps faltered as he reached the Viking, however, as he spotted Thorn. What would she say? Would she be happy... or disgusted? The young man sighed, deciding it was time to find out. Turning to look at the hulking figure before him, Rolf cleared his throat. "Erik, I have something to ask you... about your daughter, Thron," he said, his voice silky as always, but his tone showed he was being completely serious.
((Sorry this took so long lol))

Jon nodded at Rose, then opened his mouth to say that he would be happy to go and talk with her more in a quieter less grotesque environment. Then Thorn appeared beside them and started talking to them. He blinked surprised by her sudden appearance. She asked what they were doing, he looked at Rose, being poliete and letting her speak to her sister first.
When she asked if anyone had seen Rolf, Jon's brain hit a blank wall. Rolf? Who was Rolf? He quickly searched the area of the mess hall in case he saw someone who he could connect the name too. It wasn't the guy picking his teeth with a knife, Jon intensely doubted that Thorn would be trusting that guy to get an opinion from. Even if he didn't know Thorn that well. Thats when he noticed a guy walking up to the thrones and his eyes widened slightly.
"Is that him over by the thrones?" he asked Thorn, looking at the boy speak to Eirik, "he's speaking to your dad."

Rose was about to take the first step towards leaving the over filled mess hall when her sister popped up out of no where. What was she doing here? This wasn't right, why was Thorn coming over here, was she supposed to be looking for a husband, or something of that sort? Hmpf, this wasn't fair, why did she have to come and spoil her fun? All she was going to do was hang out with the guy she liked. It wasn't like she was going to kill him. Wait, that's why Thorn came over here, right? Who would've guessed, her own sister didn't trust her not to kill someone. Well, her past hadn't really given her sister much of an option seeing as killing was a favorite pass-time for Rose and she hadn't really told Thorn that she liked Jon, so what else could she have done?
"Oh, w-we were just about to step outside f-for a breather," explained Rose after a moment or two, waiting for Jon to speak up, though he didn't. Probably because of the fact Thorn was the one asking. Thorns position of strength and power often intimidated some people, but couldn't have been the reason. He was just being polite, she told herself as she looked from Jon to her sister, then back to Jon when he finally did speak up. Hm, something about Rolf? Rolf, rolf...oh right, the orphan kid who stayed with the blacksmith! She remembered him. Well, at least a little bit about him.
After Jon stopped speaking, she turned towards the throns. Why...why was he talking to their father? An orphan talking to the cheif? There was no thinkable logic for Rose to conjure up and explain why he was talking to the most powerful man in the village. Unthinkable, really. She looked at Thorn. Oh, she had that look again. Subtly rolling her eyes before she opened her mouth to speak, she wondered what was going on.
"Well, n-now you've found him," she said happily, pretending to be a little bit supportive. "I'm going to leave f-for a bit," she said as she took a few steps backwards, not checking for anything behindher. She turned to Jon. "Y-you coming?" she asked sheepishly taking another step backwards, but tripping on a misplaced tabel, falling backwards, letting out a suprised sherik as she fell.

The moment the words came from Jon's mouth she turned and looked towards the thrones. She thanked Jon and Rose absentmindedly before turning and pushing her way through the crowd. Thorn walked calmly past Rolf, smiling softly before nodding towards her father and sitting down beside him in her throne. She glanced at Eirik before smiling at Rolf. Happy that she had found him. Eirik though did not look so pleased, he took a deep drink out of his cup before leaning forward. Thorn turned her head to look at her father, her eyebrow raised slightly.
"What would a poor orphan want with my daughter?" Eirik asked raising his eyebrow. Thorns head snapped towards Rolf and her teeth clenched together, herheart squeezed. Then she pulled together and leaned back, crossing her leg over her other one and resting her arm on her thigh. Watching with interest. Looking up she saw her sister still standing with Jon. Guiltily she looked down, almost wishing that Rose would kill Jon so she wouldn't have to marry him. Her fingers clenched together leaving indents into her palms.

Rolf stood stock still, dark eyes completely focused on Erik after he had spoken. It was odd, he had faced countless challenges in the arena, had fought and helped kill Dragons when they came too close to the village, he'd faced down attacks and defended the village all with a straight face and with no nerves. But once it hit him that he was about to admit his feelings and desire to marry Thorn in front of the whole village... His heart began to hammer against his chest, his palms became sweaty. Rolf was nervous for the first time.
Thorn walked past him then, smiling softly before sitting down, giving him another smile. How would she react? They'd shared stolen moments in the forest surrounding the village, but there was never talk of a relationship, or even a desire to have anything more then the easy, if slightly odd, friendship that they already had. It had been unspoken that they would both be marrying other people in the next few years, but he never really dealt with it, not really, that was until that second... Rolf's lip twitched upwards as his eyes met Thorn's, the closest to a smile anyone really saw on him, but an expression she would recognise none the less.
The young man did not even flinch when Erik replied coldly, raised eyebrow and all. He was used to this reaction to people, and briefly wondered how the Viking would react to his next statement. Breathing in deeply, Rolf closed his eyes for a brief moment before gazing into Erik's.
"I want to marry Thorn." He let the statement hang in the air, already sensing the reactions of those around him. He did not look away from Erik, however, for the moment. "I have no name, so possessions or property, but when Elrunguard passes then I will inherit the blacksmith building, and I will have a trade to practice there," Rolf said, calm and confident in his words. "I am a strong fighter and have already slain a Dragon of my own. I could be Thorn's equal, not an underling like some of the men here." The orphan continued, staring into Erik's eyes, hoping beyond hope that this show wasn't in vain. Only then did he look away at Thorn to gauge her reaction.
((It wasn't crappy, mine was! lol))

Jon looked at Thorn as she exited towards the thrones, when he looked back at Rose, he saw her falling and caught her quickly. He laughed slightly, "you should be more careful Rose." Helping her up he smiled before turning to look at the thrones when the mess hall got slightly quieter. The looked on the cheifs face hinted to Jon that something wasn't right. "Rose," her murmmered leaning towards her slightly, "whats wrong with your father?" he questioned then hook his fingers in hers and started to back up slowly.
"We should leave till your father cools down, he looks like he's getting angry," he explained before opening the mess hall doors slightly and waving his arm allowing to Rose to exit the mess hall first. Hoping that she wouldn't be offended by anything he had done.

Rose smiled and faked a small blush as Jon caught her, laughing as he did so in the process. His smile made her feel a little...warm on the inside, the kind she felt when she was killing someone, or making them feel bad, though there was nothing negitive about this at all. It was a new feeling, but Rose didn't stop it, it still felt good. She just nodded, adding a shy sorry when he told her that she should be more careful. Well, she she should, but it wasn't like she did something like this all the time, she wasn't very clumsy, though her innocent side was.
She felt Jons fingers on hers and looked down to see if it was true. It was. She smiled and kept her head bowed, hoping no one would see her happiness. Though that happiness quickly faded away as her ears perked to the sound of her fathers voice and all she could think was, "oh no." Wasn't this susposed to be Thorns choice? So what was this guy, erm, Rolf, she guessed, was asking her father something? And he didn't sound, nor look, too pleased with this.
She turned her head in the direction of Thorn, but seeing as everyone here was now doing that exact same thing, she decided to pass her glance back towards their father. To say no, with everyone watching, would destroy this poor boy, quiet literally. To obtain and posses a no from their father was a social stand back to anyone. And plus this boy had no social grounding to hold himself on against this, he would be known as practically dead to the other villagers. They would ignore him, and if not that, tease him and taunt him for his mistrial for marrage.
But everyone knew one fact quiet well: it would be Thorn's choice, if she liked it or not. In the end, Thorn would be the one to pick, not even their father could comprimise that fact.
Then she felt Jons pull on her arm and she followed willingly. They best be away from this madness. She stepped out into the dim light and packed nsnow, feeling its coldness through her boots and to her toes, but she wasn't cold, even if she had forgotten her jacket in the mess hall. It was quiet warm today, however, she still had that warm feeling in her chest for just being with Jon.
She sighed. "Well...wasn't t-that just lovely?"

Thorn picked up the cup of booze and took a small drink of it then heard Rolf's words. The beer went down 'the wrong' tube and she stared choking into her fist. She felt her father pat her on the back, until her throat cleared. Which is when she apologized to Eirik and Rolf for interrupting. She glanced down at her hands, attempting to hide her blush. Though her father wasn't very interested in what she was doing at the moment, he turned to wards Rolf and started laughing, which in turn made the other break into laughter.
"Y-you? A poor orphan? Marry my daughter?" he laughed harder before standing up and clapping Rolf on the back, "well you made me laugh, now run along," he said then sitting back down and laughing again. When he looked back up at Rolf and noted the seriousness in the boys eyes he solemnly stared at him. "You're serious..." he drummed his fingers against the arm rest of his throne then sighed and looked at him. "If you are serious, then you wouldn't mind proving it?" Eirik said a slow smirk appeared on his face.
Thorn looked up at her father and then at Rolf, and shook her head. "No," she said looking back at her father. "I don't think Rolf needs to go through whatever you are thinking of," she said before looking down at the ground. "I have already decided my choice," Thorn whispered glancing up at her father, he stood up and walked over she whispered quietly her choice to her father.
Whose face broke into a big smile, he gave a smug look at Rolf before clapping. "At least you tried orphan, but," he raised his voice, glancing over the village, "Thorn has chosen a husband, who will be married to her on her birthday," he shouted to the mess hall who all cheered and clanked their cups together. Thorn looked at the crowd, avoiding Rolf's eyes, "she has chosen Jon Gærning!" Eirik shouted happily looking around for Jon, then finally she looked at Rolf and smiled sadly. Hoping that he wouldn't be angry with her.
