The snow fell slowly as the wind hardly pushed it at it's whim. The ground was blanketed in the soft, powder like coldness which was only broken by towering trees, here and there. The only colour amongst the field of white and brown was a black mound that rose and rested as if it was breathing. For that is exactly what it was doing. Silbern the Night Fury was happily napping after a midnight flight with the stars and moon which greatly improved his mood. His midnight black tail flicked the snow that has gathered before wrapping around his body once more. It has been atleast one month of little to no contact with any others. It was a personal best for the avoiding dragon but he couldn't be to laxed in case something would sneak up on him. Unfortunately for him, today would be a day that would break his record. All good things must come to and end some would say.

Running through the trees haphazardly, Pain paid no heed to where she was going, just running and jumping, and occasionally slipping and falling on her face, through the falling snow. Snow, snow, snow! She loved winter time! She loved spring time and fall time and summer time, too, but winter had snow! And it was just so very, very much fun to run and play in, that it had the effect of making Pain act just like a little kid, hence why she'd gotten up early especially so she could enjoy the season on her own for a bit.
Her eye catching on something shiny, she leaped up to catch a particularly long icicle clinging to the branch of a tree, pausing to inspect her treasure. She held it up to her wide eyes, jaw agape as she looked at it, and then, without a second of hesitation, she leaned forward to lick the slick, icy surface. What she hadn't anticipated was her tongue sticking to the clear, glossy surface, and as the realization dawned on her, she started to panic. She tried to pull the icicle off, but it was stuck fast, and she started to back away, as though by doing so the treacherous icicle might be left behind her. No such luck. Spinning around rapidly, she lost her balance and gave a quiet, half-muffled shriek as she tumbled, right over the side of a hill, rolling down it rather awkwardly until she hit some kind of large, black rock, bounced off and landed on her head next to it.
"Oooh...not my best idea, for sure..." She groaned as she rolled over into an awkward sitting position, rubbing her head gingerly. On the bright side, she had managed to get rid of the icicle at some point on the way down.

Bump... One eye quickly raised as something small bumped into Sil's side with a bit of momentum. It could have been from the hill nearby and was just a rolling snowball or maybe a large stone. His head quickly rose quietly and peered down on the sitting human beside him. For such a smart dragon it took an unusual amount of time for it to actually click in. It might have been some other strange bond on first sight or just that he was startled. He huffed heavily as the hot breath pushed strands of blonde hair around easily. His eyes narrowed as they peered down on the intruder. His body stretched as the dragon rose slowly from his position to tower over the human before him. Either this girl was clumsy or maybe just suicidal no longer mattered to the dark dragon. He huffed again only to push more of her hair around easily in attempt to get her to run away. He didn't want to resort to violence but he wouldn't hesitate if she continued to bother him. He was even considering making her into a personal BBQ for one.

After checking to make sure nothing was broken or bleeding, Pain started brushing the clumps of snow from her clothing, grateful for the warm gust of wind that pushed her hair over her shoulder and knocked some of the snow out, and melting some of the rest. Oblivious to what was going on behind her, she combed her fingers through her hair to get the rest of the snow out, only noticing something was amiss when she noticed how much darker it had gotten, as though she were suddenly in the shadows. Realization slowly dawned on the girl, and she turned her body ever so slowly, only to be hit full in the face with the next warm gust of wind, knocking all of her hair back over her shoulders again in a ferocious puff.
She squeezed her eyes shut against the wind, which smelled oddly of fish, before she blinked rapidly, her eyes opening wide and her chin tilting upward to look up into the face of the dragon towering over her. For a moment, nothing registered on her face, no fear, no surprise, no awe, she just stared up at the creature unblinkingly before she reacted. When she did...it was less than impressive. She tried to turn all the way around and stand up at once, but the effort seemed too much for her, and she wound up falling onto her butt in a none too dignified way, although at least now she was facing the beast. Then a look of steely determination came into her bright green eyes, and without any weapon in her hands or anything that might give her even the slightest advantage, she gave a feral cry that would bring a proud tear to any viking's eye, and without thinking, threw herself at the dragon, attempting to tackle the creature.

It was now clear to Sil what exactly this woman had on her mind. It must have been suicide. The younger female human with long blonde hair was neither armed or in a group so she proved to be a little threat. It wouldn't be the first time Silbern has killed a Viking and it would seem today would just be another one of these days. Luckily for the girl, Sil was in a happy mood from the flying the night before so instead of riping her in half or other brutal methods he could think of, he just whipped lashed his tail around. What could have been conceived as an attack was on the other hand just a large amount of snow that tidal waved over the unfortunate viking. Considering her size and her momentum, Sil would guess she was going to be in for a frosty treat that would blanket her entire body. In an instant the snow smacked into the girl as she tried her brave, or suicidal, attack against the Night Fury. If Sil couldn't help but feel light hearted against the attacker. He shot out a small plume of dark, purple fire that would probably melt the snow on her face. Then again it could very well melt her eyebrows along with it but facial hair didn't mean much to such creatures any way. Sil waited in his towering form with his tail now curled up again in case she wanted to try attacking once more in which he was going to be a bit more violent in his retaliation.

Pain's bold charge was brought up short when she saw a solid wall of white coming towards her, her eyes going wide as the icy wave hit her with enough force to take her off her feet, again, and send her back onto her rear. No sooner did she find herself on the ground than something very hot was pressing against her face, and she squeezed her eyes shut tight, certain she was about to be engulfed by flames that would doubtless spell her demise. Well, at least she'd gone down fighting, right? A real viking's death, she could be proud of that. But after a moment, the heat receded, although her face still felt warm, and she was pretty sure she wasn't dead. Well, unless she'd died so quickly that there hadn't even been time for pain; she had a feeling death by fire would be a little more excruciating than that.
Experimentally, she opened one eye to sneak a peek at what was out there...and it was the dragon, still. She opened her other eye, wondering why he wasn't trying to tear out her innards or finishing what he'd started with the flames. She didn't try to get up again, but instead frowned at the creature towering over her, wondering when he was going to get on with the murdering and the maiming. "Isn't this the part where you're supposed to kill me?" She didn't sound afraid...just curious. Dragons were supposed to be bloodthirsty killers, with nothing but murder on their decidedly tiny minds. So why wasn't he killing her right now?

The dragon continued to stand on his two hind legs to gain his towering figure while staring down at the girl. Her expression was not one of fear which Sil was expecting but instead one of... curiosity? He huffed another hot breath through his nostrils that hit the girl square in the face. He didn't know if he wanted to just kill the girl or leave her be to freeze to death. His eye lids half closed to show some irritation as his body lowered again on his little nest to catch some more hours of sleep. His left eye stayed open to watch the girl so she wouldn't try to press her luck again.
His mind fluttered with images of his old adversary Toothless with his rider flying in the air seeming to have the time of his life. His gaze continued to watch the girl that was pushed to the ground by his snow tidal wave. Why she outright tried to attack him was something he didn't really understand until he remembered the newer village that moved to the island. Those humans were the ones that apparently the more violent vikings when it came to his kind. The village was somewhat far off and she would be shivering it would seem especially since he covered her in the white, fluffy blanket.
What Sil did next was a little out of his ordinary habit but he remembered to be careful. He shifted over a few feet and then expanded one of his wings to cover over the girl like an umbrella. It protected against the falling snow at least as he kept his eye on her. From her previous example of greetings, he was expecting her to jump and gnaw on his wing. He may get a human BBQ after all.

She watched the dragon wonderingly, waiting for the inevitable death blow that never came. Her curious expression changed to one of puzzled bewilderment as the dragon not only didn't kill her, but also lowered himself into a much less threatening stance, back into his original position. What was going on? Was this some kind of ruse? Was he just toying with her before he decided to kill her? But that kind of deception just didn't make sense to Pain, although she supposed the reasons of dragons were simply beyond her as it was. He still had one eye on her, and while she was sure he could react just as quickly if she tried to act again, she didn't think he expected she would.
Moving slowly so as not to startle the beast into attacking again, she started to brush the snow that he hadn't already melted away, figuring she should probably just get out of here before the dragon came to its senses and had her for dinner. That was what dragons did, right? They roasted up vikings and ate them for dinner, which was why you had to kill them on sight! They'd do the same to you. Except this dragon, apparently.
She was still watching the dragon, and her eyes went wide again when he started to move, and immediately she raised her arms to shield her face and head from whatever terrible, death-inflicting strike was going to come next. After a moment of waiting for a death blow that never came, she lowered her arms a few scant inches, just below her eyes, so she could see what the nefarious beast was doing now. It was darker and it took her a moment to find the shiny, reflective surface of the dragon's eye, much nearer than it had been a moment ago. She wasn't as cold as she had been, and, looking up, she realized why. She was under the protection of the dragon's wing. She looked at the dragon again, not certain how to react to that. What was this dragon up to?

It was easy to see her being so uncomfortable now that he understood which village she belonged to. She was probablly thinking that a swift death would be upon her but Sil supposed today wasn't her day. He was thinking what humans would usually need in this situation when their bodies may becoming frigid with cold. Oddly enough, the only thing that came to his mind was this blonde haired girl slowly rotating near a fire like how some of the humans cook their meat. He huffed in his humor as his gaze never left the humans body.
It has come to Sil's attention after the moments of silence and the girl's obvious confusion. Maybe if he wacked her with his tail she may shut her agaped mouth and accept his reluctant help. His scally sides tingled as he felt his personal bubble being penetrated by her very presence. The only thing fighting against it was the images of the dragon he admired and competed with all his life.
Heat! That's what the human might need! He out stretched his left leg to brush a few broken logs towards her slowly before breathing slightly. He let out a low intensity purple fireball that smacked right into the logs which in turned into a cozy fire. Little by little he was actually learning things from this girl like their needs and that the humans with mounds on their chest are quite aggresive. Was all the femaled gender humans like this or was it just the viking in her that was taught by the new villages elders.
Either way he just relaxed with his wing outstretched still. His left eye finally closed but he knew that he would hear her so he could react with deadly intentions. This felt like a thinking game in which you forced the other person to make a move. So far she seemed to just be shocked by it all if not out right curious. Maybe she was a tad frozen?
